Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Thursday November 6th- arrive Hong Kong This morning we pulled into Hong Kong at 8 am and you could not really see anything until we got into port because it was another foggy morning. A group of us got off the ship with plans to just go over to Hong Kong Island and wonder the city. Hong Kong is split between two islands, Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Both have the city feel to it but Hong Kong Island has the bigger skyscrapers. We had plans just to wonder the city and then go up to "the peak" for sunset. The peak is just a hill that over looks the city. We took a ferry across to the other island. You can also take the subway but the ferry gives better views of the city. We wondered a little bit and just admired the huge buildings. The streets seemed to be more narrow then NYC and the sidewalks too. We stopped at a restaurant for lunch and had some typical Chinese food, meat over rice. It is funny to walk by all of the restaurants and see all different kinds of birds hanging in the windows. After lunch we went walked more and more, stumbled upon a temple and then finally made our way back to the ferry terminal to meet Mitch to go up to the peak. After meeting Mitch around 4:30 we hopped on a bus that took us to the cable car that goes up the mountain. It was a 15 minute ride or so up and we got some great picture of the city. On the opposite side of the hill we were able to watch the sunset over the ocean which was awesome. There was a shopping plaza with shops and restaurants at the top so we grabbed a bite to eat before heading down and back to the ship. We wanted to be back at the ship by 8:00 because the buildings along the skyline of Hong Kong Island put on a laser light show. The two islands are extremely close, it is only a 9 minute ferry ride between the two and our ship was parked on the Kowloon side so we had a great view. The light show was not as good as we expected but we got some great pictures of the skyline all lit up. A few guys and I went to see the new James Bond movie instead of going out because we had to meet at 6am tomorrow to head off to Shenzhen Airport to catch our 10:30 flight to Beijing. Hong Kong was fun but I'm glad we only had one day here because there is really not too much to do. On to Beijing!
