Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

The position on the map isn't exact, but I'm currently in Manuel Antonio overlooking a night sky with the sea infront of me and lightning brightening the mountains.

Yesterday we were in Arenal after a morning of travelling from San Jose. We joined a tour which started viewing the volcano and the old lava flows from 1968 (?) before trekking through the rain forest viewing the amazing flowers and elephant plants growing there. We continued over scarey suspension rope bridges through gullys, before getting rained on and being taken to hot natural springs-we got thrown into the river down a mini rapid, entered underwater caverns, sitting watching fireflies lighting up the lagoon and then heading down a waterslide. Words cannot describe sitting at night in bath temperature water surrounded by flickers of natural light. Then, to make the evening complete we watched the active volcano through heavy cloud and caught glimpses of red hot lava bolders being spewn down the side-the sound was trembling!

Back at the town we dined on the 'typical' dish-I've never had so many carbs on one plate! Mashed potato, boiled potato, rice, beans, plantain and chicken! I ate it all 3 minutes flat.

I videoed huge green striped iguanas eating from left over veg left in the trees from the balcony of out hostel, and today we are in Manuel Antonio ready for the national park tomorrow.

I'm sure there is much more I could tell you, the strawberry jam ice cream we had in San Jose, the 5 hour bus journey on the floor or the continuous tropical forest everywhere-but with an early start in the morning I'm heading to our 15 bed dorm to get some kip.

Buenos noches mon amigos x
