Liv's 2008 World Journey

Ilkley, UK

I look like a hippy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well that's exactly what i thought when i landed in London..mainly because the whole city was dressed as though they were going to a party! Also was reminded that Sunday's existed and everything is closed...zebra crossings work and i wasn't going to wretch if i looked at the rail tracks- wierd!!!

Managed to find my hostel even though the tube map does in fact look like a big scribble...didn't seem to have any sense of direction left from the last times i've been there... Also managed to have '10 heart attacks, 3 strokes, 16 emotional breakdowns & 5 ulcers' (as to quote a good friend) when the £ (look it's even on the keyboard!) appeared in my life again-aargh! i want my rupees back!!! Who on earth pays $NZ55 for a dorm bed shared with 6 other men (no potentials to dissapoint me more) as well as another 3 women in specific guys beds when i woke up?! Also got the shock of my life when i walked into a plain supermarket (because i'm now practically a local it was probably either tesco's, sainsburys, m&s or booths..) and saw so much food!! I forgot it was possible to have 10 flavours of potato chips, 5 ?species? of melon and frozen chips in about 4 cuts!

But apart from all the negativity i'm truly loving it here. I came up to my family's house in Ilkley last Sunday where i had the best shower of my life and popped into clean clothes! (I felt steralized after 5 months of never actually being completely clean!) The bed is also awesome- sheets and no sleeping sack AND i don't wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat because the powers gone off and the fan stopped spinning- i'm living in luxury! And don't underestimate the food at the Dybeck guesthouse...meat and couscous and potatoes that aren't allu-yum!

Got truly back into westernisation the other day when my cousins and i went ice skating.. managed to have a small old age complex there when i knew the words to 's-club7' and 'hansens' that was playing on the rink and Jenny & Kate had no idea who they were-i'm OLD!!!... basically went pro on the ice bar the small bails including almost killing a little blond six year old girl as well as pulling Kate down with me in a pool of water in a classic bum splat! Fun all the same though! Yesterday meant a trip to leeds where J,K & i got to pretend to be models in a photography studio thingy where they make funky photo's (surprise!)..basically the photographer took pictures of us rolling on the floor in fits of laughter while i wore my brightly coloured punjab- photo's should be hilarious and we get to go to the viewing next friday- can't wait! Leeds also meant i had a chance to look less homeless (thank you primark and internationale) and make a few purchases-yay! Also meant we got to do a mad dash to the train (with REAL seats) so may have to go back to see how far the NX$ can stretch on some more clothes...

Off to Granny and Grandad's today with the whole whanau which should be fun- going to cheer on (note; not join) Jenny in her fell running race today as well- i could be WELL (getting the english slang in) embarassing and cheerlead as well...now there's an idea.. best be off (i'll pretend thats english slang and not just me sounding old..)...

xx
