Coffs Harbour, New South Wales

I hope that everyone has been into the 'photos' section on here and seen hte new albums i have added - after all the complaints i received!

We are now in New South Wales. We left Brisbane about a week ago and have returned to the proper backpackers thing again. The weather has gone much cooler as we are moving into winter and moving south. I have a choice of 2 jumpers and i have to say that i am getting a bit fed up of wearing the same clothes now!

Our first stop after Brisbane was the Gold Coast - Surfers Paradise. I dont get any of the hype about this place - maybe its is all about the surf........ Basically it was just high rises on the beach, games arcades and expensive shops. Perhaps the fact that it rained the whole time didnt do much for me either. And there was the fact that the hostel we stayed at was horrid. Although Rich was chuffed that two of the staff here were from Rotherham and they have the same friends.

After Surfers we went to a place called Byron Bay. Such a pretty little town. We stayed in a good hostel here. The beach was gorgoues and so was the rest of the scenery. We walked up the headland to Cape Byron lighthouse which is the most easterly point of Australia. It was still raining and we got thoroughly soaked. We also did a day trip to a place called Nimbin. From what i gathered this was Australias version of Glastonbury (not the festival, the town). Lots of people who have chosen some kind of 'alterntive' existence. The journey to Nimbin was on a brightly coloured, mega slow hippy bus through the hinterland. The hinterland was beautiful.

Today we arrived in Coffs Harbour. The place we are staying is very close to the beach and the harbour. We walked down the beach and around the harbour this afternoon. It was sunny and warm! The water was so clear in the harbour that we could see the tropical fish and stingrays below us.
