Hi everyone,
How many people can you fit into a room with one queen size bed, or two twin? Here it could be 4 lads from Jakarta, or a family of 4, 5, or 6 - gives a new meaning to the family bed.... really the rooms are not that big...
Muslims can boogie board, the women in full gear, head cover, pants and long tunic - that would be a struggle to get back out to the waves.
Went shopping, got a dress and a t-shirt for 50,000 ($5.50) - way better deal than the Aussies on the beach who bought two sarongs on the beach for 100,000 (really should of gotten 5 for this price), but its all a matter of what your happy with.
Kuta Beach really gets crowded around 4-5 pm when all the kids get up.
Bali Bugs - not really any in Sanur, in Lovina, the hotel and restaurants all light insect coils at night, but it really was not that bad, and then there is Kuta, Bali Bug capital - lots of mosquitoes, cockroaches (Brian had to wrestle with one of one of the biggest ones we have ever seen), a mouse, and one large rat manning the cash register in the Circle K (like a 7-Eleven), and some creature who scuttles across our bathroom ceiling...
Found an Internet place for 10,000 ($1.11)/hour
In Kuta, don't tell anyone your name or hotel as this information is sold and you may get an early morning call from someone trying to sell you something (did not have this problem in Sanur or Lovina)
A lot of security in Kuta, security guards with metal detectors at the entrance of large malls and fancy restaurants,
Costs 150,000 to send a child to one month of high school, remember, average wage here is 800,000/month.
There are 4 classes - the old waiter at the Dayu II is a class 3, his boss is class 1.
We finally found some "We're on holiday" bracelets - starting price 15,000 each, Brian offered 5,000, and we got them for 4,000 - go figure!
Brian has charmed all the young ladies down the mail street of our hotel.
July 14/08 Flew with Air Asia to Malaysia - this is a cheap no thrills airline - you check in and do NOT get a seat assigned - then the fight begins - the flight is full and everyone rushes on board to get seats - it is wild. The airport in Bali has smoking rooms and praying rooms, and you have to be careful in the washrooms that you don't get the squat toilet......
We are off to Malaysia - Kota Kinabalu for 9 days and Kurla Lumpar for 5
Don't forget your passport
