First Few Days.....
After a very long and bumpy flight we arrived safely in Bangkok yesterday. Was very much looking forward to getting some fresh air as we approached the airport exit only to be hit by such a muggy heat it was like a sauna! First impressions of Bangkok, just like London! But with much worse driving, oh my god they drive like crazy people!! Indicators apparently don't exist and driving on the wrong side of the road if the right side is jammed is also perfectly acceptable! Hotel is lovely, bit of a way out but very nice, especially when its 7quid a night! The roof top pool is so nice, got to have a dip today and even though the sun had set it was still warm.There is also a reasonably nice resturant here, dinner and drink for 2 people is the equivalent to 2pounds, so cant complain! Also get some, well, interesting entertainment! Listening to Thai people singing 'I did it my way' is extremely amusing!
Went into Bangkok today, visited the Grand Palace, which was amazing, very different to anything we've ever seen. We did look like idiots though in the clothes they gave us to wear, a long green silk embrodered skirt for me and nice silky thick brown trousers for Simon! We looked sooo good! Also rode in a tuc tuc and probably swallowed more fumes in the short rides than we have in our lives so far...but a very interesting experience! Especially when they try to take you to gem stores and tailors!
Have booked up to stay in Ko Samuei next, travel by night train tomorrow and then staying for a week. Hopefully get a chance to relax on a nice island rather than the hustle and bustle of Bangkok for a few days. Not sure where after, looking at Krabi and Phuket, but nothings planned so far...
