Bangkok, Thailand

5th October 2009

After a long, but comfortable flight... with little sleep, we arrive in Bangkok!!!
We decide to dive straight in and get the local bus to our hostel, which was cool other than it breaking down 5 minutes into the journey with the driver shouting "OUT OUT" on the side of a busy highway. We did, and another one was along shortly - thank god.
Having found our hostel, which was clean and in a great location we headed out for a bite to eat and to find our feet. A 30p noodle soup and a couple of beers later we felt like seasoned travellers, bring it on! Before bed we popped into a travel agent to book the floating market for the following morning and our Vietnam Visa's.

A 6 oclock start for the floating market but it was well worth it. We had our own little boat that took us around all the "stalls" (which were essentially small canoes) and the local houses, which were sat right on the river. Was a great experience.

Our third day in Thailand was a bit of a blur. We met up with Kay and Amy and started drinking at midday :-S soooo much fun. We had a fish foot massage (where you dangle your feet into a pool of fish and they nibble off your deadskin... yummy) and many Chang beers and cocktails... followed by the girls bullying me into eating a cricket. Its disgusting, even when drunk!! At the end of the night we parted ways and stumbled back to our hostel.

Our final day in Bangkok was spent at the HUUUUGE shopping mall, MBK. 8 floors high and crammed with everything from phones to fake clothes, Steph was in heaven!!!
6 hours later we emerged with some bargains and headed back to Khoasan Road. Before leaving he city we headed off for some sight seeing and bumped into a local (a teacher of Buddhism) who flagged down a tuk tuk and got us an absolute bargain. He agreed to take us around many of Bangkok's amazing temples, wait while we looked around and then take us on to the next place, all for 40 Baht - which about 80p. We saw some amazing sights, like the Grand Palace and the 50m standing buddha. Amazing. Getting dropped off back on Khaosan Road we boarded our 12 hour sleeper bus to Chang Mai. Only 5 pounds each and we managed to get seats at the front on the top so had loads of leg room.

Bangkok was amazing but we were so happy to be getting away from all the traffic, smog and noise. Next stop, trekking in the jungle!!!!
